Working under the supervision of the paired Exercise Physiologist, this position/internship is responsible for working up to administering and monitoring 12-lead Cardiopulmonary Metabolic Exercise Testing (CMET) and Pulmonary Functions Testing (PFT) in a field setting following Frontera protocols. Interns should have a general knowledge of 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECG's) and Metabolic testing (VO2max). The candidate must also be able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal social skills to communicate with providers and patients, and interact and adapt with professionalism to different circumstances and people. Interns are required to assist Exercise Physiologist in patient care, and progress to full testing abilities.

The Department of Kinesiology is a flourishing academic unit with 14 full-time faculty members, over 500 undergraduate majors and approximately 40 master’s level graduate students. We are dedicated to the development of future leaders in professions that maximize the potential of individuals and society through physical activity. Programs in the department include: Exercise Science (B.S. and M.S.) and Physical & Health Education Teacher Education (B.S. and M.A.T.). The department also houses a Coaching Education Minor, the Morrison Bruce Center, the Empowerment3 center, and contributes significantly to General Education at JMU. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the Associate/Full Professor rank with a negotiated teaching component and with the possibility of tenure upon initial appointment given appropriate credentials. Requirements for the position include: (1) an earned doctorate appropriate to the position; (2) strong evidence of a collaborative leadership style; (3) a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in exercise science, physical and health education teacher education, sport/exercise psychology, or related field; (4) a record of scholarship and service, including service to the discipline and/or professional associations; and (5) previous successful academic/professional leadership experience. The successful candidate will be expected to further the department’s educational mission, support and encourage scholarship, foster recruitment and support of high quality students, and promote the department within and beyond the university.
The Department of Kinesiology is located within the university’s College of Health and Behavioral Studies (http://chbs.jmu.edu/), a highly collaborative College that also includes: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Graduate Psychology, Social Work, and the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services. The Academic Unit Head reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) and serves on the CHBS Leadership Council.
