The Department of Kinesiology at James Madison University is accepting applications for a 10- month, renewable term appointment position that will begin August 25, 2019 (Position #F1251). The successful candidate will demonstrate dedication to general education, with a significant teaching role in KIN 100 Lifetime Fitness and Wellness, as well as contributing to undergraduate courses within the exercise science concentration in such areas as exercise psychology / behavior change, motor development and learning, strength and conditioning, and/or exercise leadership. Minimum of a master’s degree (earned by the start date) from an accredited college/university in exercise science or related field is required. Candidates must possess a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Preference will be given to candidates with: (a) university teaching experience; (b) a background in at least one of the following: strength and conditioning, exercise leadership, exercise psychology/behavior change, and/or motor development and learning; (c) ACSM, NSCA, or similar certifications; and (d) classroom/teaching experience and/or industry experience. Working under the supervision of the paired Exercise Physiologist, this position/internship is responsible for working up to administering and monitoring 12-lead Cardiopulmonary Metabolic Exercise Testing (CMET) and Pulmonary Functions Testing (PFT) in a field setting following Frontera protocols. Interns should have a general knowledge of 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECG's) and Metabolic testing (VO2max). The candidate must also be able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal social skills to communicate with providers and patients, and interact and adapt with professionalism to different circumstances and people. Interns are required to assist Exercise Physiologist in patient care, and progress to full testing abilities.

Requirements for the position include: (1) an earned doctorate appropriate to the position; (2) strong evidence of a collaborative leadership style; (3) a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in exercise science, physical and health education teacher education, sport/exercise psychology, or related field; (4) a record of scholarship and service, including service to the discipline and/or professional associations; and (5) previous successful academic/professional leadership experience. The successful candidate will be expected to further the department’s educational mission, support and encourage scholarship, foster recruitment and support of high quality students, and promote the department within and beyond the university.
